DataScaleFail #16: DBaaS Ranking Update: IONOS joins, AWS RDS M8a takes the lead

Our DBaaS OLTP Ranking for PostgreSQL has two new entries: the first European cloud provider, and a new AWS instance family that goes straight to the top. Read both deep dives below. Then open the live ranking to see where your provider lands. Every configuration, cost and raw measurement is there for you to check.

1. IONOS PostgreSQL Benchmark: OLTP Performance and Pricing

IONOS is the first EU-based DBaaS in the ranking. At 1,792 ops/s it matches Google Cloud SQL's throughput. Its three-node HA setup costs about $2,079/month, though, which gives it the lowest price-performance of all public entries. More European providers will follow in the coming weeks.

2. Same PostgreSQL, More Throughput: AWS RDS M8a Benchmarked

RDS PostgreSQL on the new AMD EPYC-based db.m8a.2xlarge reaches 5,036 ops/s. That's 23% more than the previous leader, M9g, with 20% lower P95 latency. It costs about 10% more per month but still has the best price-performance in the ranking.
